And then the protest in Azad Kashmir is not new but this protest started in May last year, even then it was peaceful and even in the beginning the public movement was completely peaceful. The question arises as to how it was later tortured. In May 2023, the main demand of this movement was reduction in electricity rates. This movement started from Rawalakot. The government of that time did not pay any attention to this one-point demand of the people, thus the people of Azad Kashmir turned into helplessness and despair. The lava of emotions was boiling inside. After a year, it erupted violently. The Azad Kashmir Joint People's Action Committee decided to take a long march from Rawalakot to Muzaffarabad on May 11. Before the implementation of this decision, the Azad Kashmir government called the police and Rangers and the roundup began. It should be noted that the Joint Action Committee currently represents about 98% of the people of Azad Kashmir. On the other hand, there is an army of 48 people including ministers, advisers and advisors in the cabinet formed on the bill of a small mini-assembly of only 52 members, but there is no wise man among them, otherwise "long march" and long protest. The turn does not come.
A year ago, the main demand of the Kashmiri people was a reduction in electricity rates, but now it has increased from one to four demands. 2500MW of electricity from Neelum Jhelum Dam is being added to the National Grid for many years while Azad Kashmir is consuming only 350MW of electricity. Kashmiri consumers say that many types of surcharges are being charged from us even after the completion of the Neelum Jhelum project. The electricity generated is being sold at a very high price of 4-5 rupees per unit. The people of Azad Kashmir should get relief through home production. However, there is also a point of view that if the Azad Kashmir government is taking net profit and royalty on the production of electricity, then how can electricity be given to the people at the cost of production? The demand of the people of Azad Kashmir was that by removing the taxes imposed in the electricity bills, we should add some service charges to the electricity production cost and get it at a reasonable rate. There was a subsidy on flour. The third demand was to end the privileges and protocols of the ruling class. By this time, almost every member of Azad Kashmir Assembly is a minister or advisor, everyone has government vehicles, staff, police guard, government house in which hundreds of units of electricity are provided monthly for free. The budget allocated for the luxuries of the rulers and the bureaucracy is met by imposing taxes and more taxes on the common people, so this demand of the Kashmiri people is completely justified.
Now the question is, how did the peaceful protest intensify? In fact, our security agencies were used to crushing every legitimate protest by force, but this time again, when the government agencies tried to do the same, the situation changed completely, to throw our policemen down the mountain. "Traditions" started, then what was to happen, Prime Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif hastily saved his life by approving 23 billion rupees for Azad Kashmir. But by then, we were laughed at all over the world, India was laughing at us, anger was rising for Pakistan from inside Occupied Kashmir, how 3 Kashmiris were killed during the protest. Modi government is against Kashmiris anyway, started giving such statements on this protest which are not even publishable here. Then after such actions of the government, India's case becomes stronger,,,,,,, India's case was strengthened at the same time when the inflation here started to touch the sky and the conditions there were normal. So why would Kashmiris want to join Pakistan, and then there is no place where nations are united on the basis of religion. Why would the country sign a 10-year agreement with Iran and India on Chabahar? If so, why would Saudi Arabia invest in India? If so, why would India invest billions of dollars in UAE? If that was the case, why would Afghanistan have developed relations with India instead of Pakistan? That is, these are all games of interests, nothing is simple here, but a lot of things are complicated,, here the people see their convenience and the rulers their interests!
Therefore, adopt policies of national reconciliation, create harmony between the people and the government, the federation should not take the cold war between KPK Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and the newly elected Governor Faisal Karim Kundi too seriously. Explain both. Because taking this fight more seriously means you can get into more trouble. Because if action is taken against KPK, God willing, it will be the final nail in Pakistan's coffin.
However, law and order remains our biggest problem and those whose job it is to look after the law and order situation have their interests elsewhere. Those of us have seen the situation of the country deteriorate a lot, but there was never such a deteriorated situation. If the system is to be established, it will not last, Ayub Khan tried to justify his power that the country is developing and the country has achieved stability. The work went on for ten years, but when the burning lava came to boil, everything was washed away and today that era is also remembered with fond words. Ziaul Haq wanted to gain acceptance for himself in the name of Islam. What we call religious elements were with them, Jamaat-e-Islami was their vanguard in many respects. The business class and big capitalists who were against Bhutto became supporters of Zia. But even Zia could not stay on the dictatorial structure and after some time he had to fake a referendum and hold non-partisan elections. And then the situation did not remain in their grasp. Similarly, Musharraf also wanted to establish a system of coercion, but he was also removed through movements, so the period of oppression is not long, it is for a very short time. Even then, the cracks in the society are already there and they are getting deeper every day. Stalin was a dictator - the bloody kind of dictator. Be a leaden wall against the winds. But it could not happen. Even if the government or the security agencies think that the people are with them, it is just their delusion.
What has happened or is happening in Azad Kashmir today, was Gilgit-Baltistan some time ago. Wherever you see, there is a protest. People are suffering due to inflation. Seeing the situation in Azad Kashmir, people are thinking that this is the way to persuade. The entire western border has become a river of fire. The attacks are so numerous that they cannot be counted. Loss of life is taking place. The IMF is saying that economic goals can be affected due to political instability. For Stalin and Hitler, national unity was inevitable, but look at the press conference that scatters pearls of logic. Without knowing whether this work is for him or not. When will we handle it? Do the ruling and decision-making forces want a civil war in this country? Don't they know that after the recent election, the whole country is waiting for a spark, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is sitting on fire, Punjab is sitting on a burning spark, Sindh people are crushed. And Balochistan is already suffering from deprivation. And then what is the matter that we have to take the path of violent protest to meet our legitimate demands? Will three or four people have to be sacrificed? Government property will have to seize? If not, the government should come to their senses and handle the situation, otherwise it will be too late like Azad Kashmir!
