Some time ago, I made some comments in a column about Solidarity Kashmir, in which I mentioned India's atrocities against Kashmiris and analyzed how the Indian government, despite claiming to be a secular state, treats Muslims. And how they have treated the Kashmiri Muslims badly. Although the government of India is giving priority to the development work in Kashmir to ignore the excesses and Kashmiri students are also getting special admission privileges in Indian universities, but the supporters of freedom are refusing all kinds of facilities for their freedom.
I also tried to explain that it is important to know what Kashmir is. It is not only Kashmir but it includes the states of Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit and Baltistan. This region which was the cradle of peace and harmony for centuries and those people who knew how to love, where living together was given priority, I don't know who caught their eye.
But today I am drawing attention to an issue which is not Indian Kashmir but Pakistani Kashmir. For some time there was a movement going on in Azad Kashmir against poor supply and high prices of electricity where people from every town and village of Azad Kashmir joined it without any political affiliation. Even the people of Poonch said that they do not need electricity. Electricity Department of WAPDA and Azad Kashmir should remove the electric poles from their lands or they will remove them themselves. Later, an attempt was made to resolve the issues in negotiations and the issue was temporarily suppressed, but when no suitable solution could be presented to the people, it was announced to resume the peaceful protest movement.
A procession was announced in the city of Dadyal, a city that has a large number of residents living in the surrounding villages abroad and probably receives the most foreign exchange from Pakistan, rather than the main source of foreign exchange. The human rights procession would have been given an opportunity to record their protest. Finally, the thoughtless rulers and the incompetent bureaucracy took the brutality to the extreme and tear gas shells were thrown on them for a long time, from which some of the shells fell in the school and some of the innocent girls who went to study there were seriously injured. A girl was martyred. Along with this, in the dark of the night, the people who were involved in this movement were picked up from their homes without any warrant or crime and subjected to torture. If there was a protest against electricity, such a big movement would not have happened. This atrocity set the entire Kashmir on fire and people came out of their homes to protest. Roads were closed. Due to the incompetence of an Assistant Commissioner of Dadyal and violence against the people, the entire Azad Kashmir is currently in a state of protest. Its severity increased so much that a police sub-inspector had to lose his life and now we don't know where this camel will sit?
When I heard this news, I remembered the time of my youth, probably it was 1975. The first lady Begum Nusrat Bhutto was invited as a special guest in the certificate distribution ceremony of Government Degree College, Mirpur. A procession was taken out and someone tried to climb on the bonnet of Begum Bhutto's car. The beauty of democracy is that it gives every person the right to speak his mind within the circle of civilization. If fifteen to eighteen year old children were making any demands in front of the country's prime minister's wife and they were insulted, then they should have been treated with caution, but in response to this, the whole of Mirpur was a battlefield for about twenty days. Even at that time, the FSF soldiers brought from the Frontier Province to teach a lesson to the Kashmiris tortured all men and women indiscriminately, even the students of Pilot High School were made to jump from there by throwing sticks on the roof of the second floor and so on. At that time, a leader of the People's Party, Mir Khalid Bashir, was also injured while saving the college students from the FSF who conquered the people. The police station was filled with students. That hatred drowned the PPP and for a long time the PPP could not win the election from here.
Now the times have changed, it is the era of social media, news reaches everywhere. Everyone knows that approximately 4,000 megawatts of electricity is generated in Azad Kashmir, with an average production cost of Rs. If tax is imposed, how far does it go? Azad Kashmir High Court also declares it wrong. Pakistan and especially Punjab and Sindh should be grateful to Kashmiris for burying the graves of their ancestors in water and making their fields sway. While Kashmiris are also given expensive grain. Perhaps all this would have been tolerated but the unnecessary violence and harassment of Kashmiris by the ruling class has turned the peaceful protest against their illegal electricity bills into a violent one.
Pakistan is already very weak in foreign affairs, now this wave of protest in Azad Kashmir will spoil the opportunity for India to convince the world that Pakistan's rule over Kashmir is illegitimate and Kashmiris do not want to live with Pakistan.
Our forefathers have sacrificed a lot for Pakistan, Jalil-ul-Qadr leaders like Chaudhry Ghulam Abbas had to leave their daughter in the custody of Hindus in this movement. The family of Azad Kashmir High Court Chief Justice Khawaja Yusuf Saraf had to endure many hardships, not just these two, but thousands of families were subjected to such atrocities. The rulers of power should keep this in mind, if there is opposition from within, it will be easy for the powerful enemy to create problems from outside. They should be given a share.
